Structural Collapse Week

Kirwan Heights Fire Department and the Scott Township Fire District teamed up to host Structural Collapse. Collapse 1 was held on September 10, 2012. Structural Collapse II was held September 15 & 16, 2012. Please enjoy the photos from class.

Building Fire

Kirwan Heights Fire Department responded to the report of a working building fire at Universal Stainless & Alloy. Arriving onscene, crews found a small storage shed with heavy smoke coming from the building. An initial attack was all that was needed to extinguish the fire. Ventilation and quick overhaul were completed to ensure that the fire was extinguished. Crews were onscene about 1 hour and the incident was held at a single alarm response.

Bob Evans Safety Day

Kirwan Heights Fire Department, along with Bob Evans Restaurant, hosted a Fire Prevention and Safety Day. All persons coming into Bob Evans were invited to take a tour of our fire apparatus. Kids and parents were also given a brief demonstration of Fire Safety and what to do in case of fire.

Washington Pike MVA

Kirwan Heights Fire Department and EMS responded to the report of a 2 car motor vehicle accident on Washington Pike near Steen Road. Crews arrived on scene to find 2 vehicles involved with moderate to heavy damage to both. Washington Pike traffic was limited to 1 lane alternating traffic while crews worked to remove the vehicles and debris left on the roadway.

There were minor injuries at the accident.

Patient Handling

Members of Kirwan Heights and Heidelberg Fire Departments attended a Patient Handling class taught by Instructor Joseph Wissel. Students were shown a video on proper lifting techniques and the variety of equipment available to EMS providers for the safe movement and transport of patients.

Truck vs. Car

Kirwan Heights Fire & EMS were dispatched to the report of a motor vehicle accident involving a car vs. truck. Crews arrived onscene to find a medium-sized truck on it's size and moderate front-end damage to the car. Two persons were transported to area hospitals for further treatment.

For about one hour, Washington Pike was limited to one lane each way while crews worked to clean-up debris and remove the vehicles from the roadway.

Boat Fire

Kirwan Heights was dispatched for the reported boat on fire at 1375 Washington Pike. Engine 124 arrived onscene to find a medium-sized boat on fire. Crews worked to quickly extinguish the fire. Cause of the fire was not immediately known.

St. Clair Hospital Adopt-a-Highway

The St. Clair Hospital Green Team and Fire Departments from Kirwan Heights and Mt. Lebanon spent Saturday morning cleaning up trash along Vanadium and Bower Hill Roads. Fire Department crews members assisted providing vehicle safety blocking. Several of the members also pitched in to help with the trash clean-up.

Washington Pike Wash Down

Local passerbys attempted to paint Washington Pike today, but failed. Kirwan Heights Fire Department responded to wash down the paint. Crews used about 900 gallons of water to clean the roadway. There were no injuries before or during the incident. Washington Pike lanes were restricted for about 45 minutes during cleanup.

Washington Pike Crash

Kirwan Heights Fire Department & EMS responded to the report of a motor vehicle accident in front of the old Damon's Restaurant on Washington Pike. Crews arrived to find two vehicles involved. Crews extricated and transported two patients to area hospitals. Remaining members assisted with traffic control and roadway cleanup.

Fall Firefighter Picnic

Kirwan Heights Fire Department hosted a picnic for it's members. The weather cleared in time for our members to enjoy a day out at Scott Township Park.

Fire Safety Day

Kirwan Heights Fire Department will be hosted Fire Safety Days at local business at the end of September and beginning of October. Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be activities provided by both businesses for all ages.

Bob Evans: Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 5pm - 7pm

Home Depot: Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 10am - 4pm

Vanadium Road MVA

Kirwan Heights Fire & EMS, along with Scott Township EMS, responded to the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries in front of 639 Vanadium Road. Crews arrived onscene to find a two vehicle accident with severe damage to both vehicles.

Kirwan Heights Rescue 124 was used to extrication one patient by removing a door. EMS crews from Kirwan Heights and Scott Township EMS transported three patients to area hospitals.
