Early Morning Structure Fire

About 0130 hours this morning, Kirwan Heights Fire Department and Fire Rehab were dispatched to assist Scott Township Fire District on a working structure fire. Fire was reported to be in the basement and running the walls into the attic space. Kirwan Heights EMS provided Firefighter Rehab services while firefighter from our department assisted with fire suppression, overhaul, and air supply.

Truck vs. Electric Pole

During the earlier morning hours of March 26, 2012, Kirwan Heights Rescue and EMS responded to a motor vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Vanadium Road and Washington Pike. This accident was actually reported by our EMS staff as it was directly in front of the station. As indicated by the picture below there was severe damage to the one vehicle involved.

Kirwan Heights Rescue personnel responded to cut open the driver's door using our "Jaws of Life." Crews remained onscene afterwards to assist with clean up and removal of the severely damaged vehicle.

One unidentified male patient was transported to Allegheny General Hospital for further evaluation and treatment of injuries sustained during the accident.

Chartier's Creek Review - Route 50 Lowhead Dam

Kirwan Heights Fire Department is currently starting our review of local waterways in our response area and the South Hills. We are working with other local public safety agencies to go through Swift Water Rescue Training this spring. The goal of our review of the local waterways is to familiarize our department members with the inherent dangers of fast moving water in preparation for the upcoming rescue training.

Medical Assist with Scott Township EMS

Kirwan Heights EMS was dispatched to assist Scott Township EMS at Manor Care Greentree with a StatMedevac Helicopter detail. EMS responded and assisted by transporting the crew from the landing zone to Manor Care Greentree and back. Check out our EMS crew at work!

Vacant House Demolition

Kirwan Heights Fire Department in conjunction with the Collier Township Municipal are working towards making your community safer. The demolition of abandoned properties along the Route 50 corridor has begun. In the past two months, four abandoned properties have been torn down and three more are scheduled for demolition.

KHFD and Collier Township are working together to remove these vacant buildings due to the threat of fire and vandalism.

Most of the homes demolished or scheduled to be demolished have been vacant or abandoned for 10 to 20 years.

Accident

Two car motor vehicle accident about 100 yards from our station. Crews responded to clean up debris and direct traffic. There were only minor injuries reported.
