Firefighter Rehab

Kirwan Heights Fire Department was invited to attend a Firefighter Rehab round table discussion last week at the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy. Director Pat Shoop of Fame EMS hosted this event. EMS Director Joseph Wissel, Deputy Chief Erick Podurgiel, and Safety Officer Bill Lacey attended the round table dicussion with Fame EMS. Also in attendance were personnel from Parkview VFD/EMS, Lockhaven EMS, and Bellfonte EMS.

Topics discussed were firefighter rehab, protocols, techniques, and accountability. On Thursday, all of the EMS personnel were able to interact with students from the Fire Academy during the fall structure burn session. Crews provided rehab to over 24 firefighters while working side by side with Paramedics and EMTs from Fame EMS. Gary Fulton, the acting Administrator for the Fire Academy, held a discussion group where he pointed out many firefighter rehab success stories.

Stay tuned to kirwanfire.com for more information on firefighter rehab and also a new interactive website to help facilitate all PA Firefighter Rehab needs at www.paffrehab.com.

Special thanks to Pat Shoop and Mick Abrashoff of Fame EMS for getting all of us together and putting our emergency service personnel's safety first.
