USAR Marking Class

Members of Kirwan Heights Fire Department and other local public safety agencies attended a USAR Marking class created and instructed by PA State Fire Academy Instructor Timothy McDonald. Members attending the class learned about the various tools used to mark structures during and Urban Search and Rescue evolution.

Confined Space Rescue

In the last week, 26 members of local fire departments attend a Confined Space Rescue class hosted by Kirwan Heights Fire Department. Due to the larger than expected attendance, the class was moved to Heidelberg Fire Department. Instructor Scott George took the participants through a variety of different extrication scenarios.

"Fill The Boot" for Jerry's Kids

On Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 10:00am to 2:00pm, the members of Kirwan Heights Fire Department took to the streets collecting money for Jerry's Kids. Locations were set up at Great Southern Shopping Center, Washington Pike at Vanadium Road, Washington Pike at Steen Road, and Washington Pike at Thoms Run Road. The four intersections see approximately 25,000 vehicles a day.

"Rock The Quarry"

Friday, August 26th and Saturday, August 27th was the Panhandle Trail's Annual "Rock The Quarry". Kirwan Heights Fire Department members attended both nights provided both medical and fire suppression coverage for the event.

MVC on I-79

In the early hours of the morning, crews from 124/770 responded to an MVC with rollover on I-79. One patient was extricated and transported to an area trauma center in serious condition.

State EMS Conference

The 34 annual PA EMS Conference was held in Lancaster, PA at the Lancaster Conference Center. This conference is an educational event designed to bring EMS practitioners together from across the Commonwealth and the nation to network and learn of the latest advances and practices in the delivery of prehospital emergency medicine. Over 40 exhibitors also attend to display the latest in equipment, vehicles, and medical technology. Kirwan Heights Fire Department EMS was represented by Joseph Wissel (Director) and Nate Jackson. Paving Equipment Ignites

On Thursday, August 4th, Kirwan Heights responded to a report of a paving machine on fire. Upon arrival, crews found a working machinery fire. The fire was quickly knocked down and all units returned to service. While the machine was marked out of service in an abandoned lot, it caught fire again Saturday morning. Kirwan Heights made the initial knock down, and called Heidelberg for their Compressed Air Foam Suppression System (C.A.F.S.) to complete the suppression.
