Volunteer

Kirwan Heights Fire Department is always looking for men and women who would like to help out the community by becoming a volunteer firefighter or emergency medical technician.

Are you...

Kirwan Heights Fire Department will pay for all training courses, provide you with personal protective equipment, and other necessary items. Any member wishing to become a Paramedic will need to sign a 2 year employment contact with Kirwan Heights. Tuition will then be covered for the class. However, students will need to cover the cost of any books or other materials needed for the class.

If you are interested in becoming a firefighter or EMT with Kirwan Heights, we meet on Monday nights at 7:00. Our meeting night is the 2nd Monday of each month, with training on the 1st, 3rd and 4th. We encourage you to stop at the station on Monday nights to meet the members and receive an application.

Also, you can enter your information here, and someone will be in touch with you.

FireVEST Scholarship Program
The Community College of Allegheny County's FireVEST scholarship program provides 100% of expenses (tuition, books, etc.) for their degree programs. To qualify, you must be an active firefighter within Allegheny County, complete basic firefighting training within the time period, and maintain active status for 5 years. For more information, click here.
Time Commitments
During your first years as a firefighter, you will need to invest a significant amount of time acquiring basic training and certifications. Most of this time will be during weekday evenings and select weekend days. However, CCAC and the Allegheny County Fire Academy structure their classes to work around alot of different work schedules.
New recruits must choose to either attend Firefighting Essentials or EMT-B class during their first year. Additionally, you will need to be available on Monday evenings for in-house training. Our in-house training program will begin to familiarize you with our operating procedures, equipment, and personnel. We have structured this program to let you absorb this information over time; rather than give it to you all at once.
We also pride ourselfs with community involvement, so from time to time during the years members are asked to help with the community and other scheduled events.
